What’s Included in Tree Removal

1

Site assessment

We look at the tree’s size, condition, lean, and how close it sits to your house, fence, power lines, and any structures.

2

Removal plan

We decide whether the tree can be felled whole or needs to come down in sections, and confirm access for equipment.

3

Rigging or felling

Larger or tightly-placed trees are cut down in controlled sections using rigging; open trees with clear space can often be felled directly.

4

Limbing and bucking

The tree is broken down into manageable pieces once it’s on the ground, with the trunk cut into sections for hauling.

5

Cleanup and haul-away

Debris is cleared to the scope covered in your written estimate, whether that’s full haul-away or leaving cut wood on-site.

Why Local Climate Matters for Tree Removal

Bismarck sees frequent high winds, ice storms, and hard freezes, all of which affect how a tree needs to be assessed and removed. Wind-stressed trees can develop hidden weak points or cracks that aren’t obvious from the ground. Frozen or snow-covered ground changes equipment access and how debris gets hauled out. We factor local conditions into the removal plan instead of using the same approach year-round.

What Affects the Cost of Tree Removal

Removal cost is driven mainly by the tree’s height and trunk diameter, its condition, and how accessible it is (open yard versus tight against a house, fence, or power line). Whether the tree needs to be felled whole or taken down in rigged sections also affects labor time. We’ll walk through all of these in your written estimate so there’s no guessing at final cost.

What You Can Expect Working With Us

You’ll get a written estimate before we start, a single crew responsible for the job from assessment through cleanup, and a clear explanation of whether cleanup and haul-away are included, not just a number.

Tree Removal FAQs

Do I need a permit to remove a tree in Bismarck?

Trees on your own private property generally don’t need a city permit. Trees in the city right-of-way or boulevard strip do require a permit from the Bismarck Forestry Division, which is available at no cost. We can help you figure out which category applies.

What’s included in cleanup?

We’ll state explicitly in your written estimate whether hauling, chipping, and stump grinding are included or priced separately.

Should my tree be topped instead of removed?

Generally, no. Topping is widely considered harmful to tree health and often causes weak regrowth that becomes a hazard later. See our Hazard Tree Assessment page for a fuller explanation.
