How much does tree removal cost?

Cost depends mainly on the tree’s height, trunk diameter, condition, and how accessible it is (open yard versus tight against a house, fence, or power line). The only way to get an accurate number for your project is a written estimate after we’ve seen the tree, which is why we don’t quote flat rates over the phone without more detail.

Is stump grinding included with tree removal, or is that extra?

Stump grinding is typically a separate line item from the removal itself, since not everyone wants the stump ground right away. We’ll break this out clearly in your written estimate so you can decide whether to include it.

Do you offer free estimates?

Yes. Call (701) 732-9080 or use our contact form to request one. There’s no obligation to move forward after you get your written estimate.

Process & Technical

What’s included in cleanup, do you haul away all the debris?

We’ll state explicitly in your written estimate whether hauling, chipping, and stump grinding are included or priced separately. This is one of the most common points of confusion in tree work, so we spell it out before the job starts, not after.

Will you need access to my neighbor’s property?

Sometimes, depending on where the tree sits and which direction it needs to come down or be rigged. If that’s the case for your project, we’ll explain the standard process for getting neighbor access or permission before work begins.

Do you offer emergency or same-day service for storm-damaged trees?

We take storm damage calls as they come in and prioritize situations where a tree or limb is posing an active hazard. Call us directly for the fastest read on how quickly we can get to you.

Should a tree be topped instead of fully removed?

Generally, no. Topping (cutting a tree’s main branches back to stubs) is widely considered harmful to tree health and often triggers weak, poorly attached regrowth that becomes a hazard later. If a tree is a genuine risk, full or partial removal by a qualified crew is usually the safer long-term answer. We’ll walk you through the options during your assessment.

Do I need a permit to remove a tree in Bismarck?

Trees on your own private property generally do not require a city permit to remove. Trees growing in the city right-of-way or boulevard strip between the sidewalk and street are different: Bismarck’s Forestry Division requires a pruning/removal permit for those, and permits are available at no cost to the property owner. We can help you figure out which category your tree falls into.

How do you safely remove a tree near power lines or my house?

Trees near structures or utility lines are typically removed in sections rather than felled whole, using rigging and controlled lowering to keep pieces away from anything they could damage. We assess line-of-sight to power lines, your home, fences, and any other structures before deciding on the removal method.

What’s the best time of year for tree removal or trimming?

Late fall through winter (the dormant season) is generally the best window for pruning most tree species, since the tree isn’t actively growing and disease pressure is lower. Removal can happen any time of year, though winter conditions (ice, frozen ground, snow load) sometimes affect scheduling and access. We’ll advise on timing for your specific tree.

Trust & Working With Us

What should I verify before hiring a tree service?

Ask directly about insurance coverage and how the company handles liability if something is damaged during the work. It’s also worth confirming the written scope, cleanup terms, and timeline before you sign off on anything.

What should a written tree service estimate include?

A useful estimate should spell out the scope of work, what cleanup and haul-away covers, whether stump grinding is included, the timeline, and payment terms before work is scheduled.

Do you handle both residential and commercial properties?

Yes. Alongside residential tree removal, trimming, and stump grinding, we also take on land clearing and tree work for small commercial and light-industrial properties around Bismarck and Mandan.

How do payments work?

We’ll go over payment terms as part of your written estimate, so there are no surprises once the job is scheduled.

Service-Specific

Can I get firewood or mulch from the removed tree instead of paying for full haul-away?

Often, yes, depending on the tree species and condition. Ask about this option when you request your estimate; leaving cut wood or chips on-site can sometimes reduce the haul-away portion of the cost.

How soon can you start, and how long does a typical project take?

Timelines vary by project size, current schedule, and weather. A standard single-tree removal typically takes a few hours to a day; larger or more complex jobs take longer. We’ll give you a realistic start date and timeline as part of your estimate.

What areas do you serve?

We serve Bismarck and the surrounding area, including Mandan, Lincoln, and the rest of Burleigh and Morton Counties. See our Service Areas page for details, or just ask when you request your estimate.
